Azar S. Bogan

Azar S. Bogan is a Music Business Consultant to Demoshoppers and Labelshoppers. Azar began her career in music at the age of 16 when she taught herself how to DJ and secured a show on CIXS, Dawson College's student-run radio station in Montreal, Canada. She quickly took over as the Hiphop Music Editor and began to form relationships with record labels across North America. She spent her summers interning in the radio promotions department at Interscope Records in L.A.

Azar took her contacts to CKUT 90.3FM, which at the time was Montreal's only source of urban music. She produced and hosted an all-female hiphop radio show, Cypher, which garnered international success from 1998 to 2003.

During this time, Azar held various positions in the music industry. She worked as a clerk for record store Science Records. She was the urban music writer for Homebass.com, an online store for independent music. At ZooBone Records, record label and studio in Montreal, Azar managed the day to day operations of the office and also booked monthly events with local and U.S. Hiphop artists.

In 2001, during the demise of Napster, Azar became the urban EJ at FLIPR, the first legitimate peer-to-peer file sharing service for music. Azar further developed her contacts by introducing digital distribution to record labels.

In 2002, Azar formed her own record label company, RainMakerz and went on to producer and release a 12” that received accolades from The Source, Elemental, URB, and many other publications. The following year, she was accepted into NYU's elite Music Business Graduate Program.

During her schooling, she ran the operations of Day By Day Entertainment, a national independent distribution company based in New York City and was responsible for over 15 releases. She received her Masters in 2005 and immediately went on to work in the A&R Department of Universal Motown Records under Executive VP of A&R Bruce Carbone as well as Sr VP of A&R Eric Nicks. Azar has been credited for Chamillionaire's platinum debut album, The Sound of Revenge, and has worked on many projects including releases from Birdman & Lil Wayne, Jojo, Shiny Toy Guns, Mya and much more.

While at Universal Motown Records, Eric Nicks took Azar under his wing and involved her in 1st Class Entertainment, the company responsible for the industry's most influential showcase, R&B Live. Since June 2006, Azar has been coordinating R&B Live, the event that has featured exclusive performances by Ne-Yo, Brian McKnight, Fantasia, Mario, Trey Songz, J Holiday and many more. In the same year, she founded PSP, Inc., management home to artists such as Poison Pen, Duo Live, Eternia and Brooklyn Academy. Today, Azar assists with the operations of Brookland Entertainment, the indie record label formed by Eric Nicks and the Trackmasters.
